Easy Latte at Home

I am still in the “goal setting” mind-frame right now. Some of them are personal, some are fitness oriented, and some are just plain old finance goals. December was awesome! So much time with family, great food, and a few splurges here and there. Now that January is well underway, I am being creative with getting a little more homey and budget-wise. I am not legit pioneering or anything, but I have been using my crockpot more and eating out way less. That includes my caffeine addiction! I have always assumed that I needed a fancy steam frother or Aeropress to make my lattes at home, but I am here to tell you that is not the case. All you need is a jar and a microwave! This is such a crazy simple way to save a few bucks in the New Year.

A little bit of furious shaking is good for some giggles! Pretend you are playing maracas, or you are getting some actual upper body workout (bahahaha). It actually doesn’t take long to agitate the milk until it is almost twice in volume. Just make sure that you are using nonfat or low fat milk for the best results, and only fill your jar up half-way or less.

Then, just remove the lid and pop it into the microwave for 30 seconds.

The foam will have miraculously stabilized into a spoonable consistency without some fancy frother! For a cappuccino, just use the foam…but for a latte, use some of the hot milk before topping of with the luscious foam. Feel free to give a dusting of cinnamon or cocoa for a happy barista touch.

Cozy, comforting and caffeinated! Loving the three C’s on a budget 😉

Whether you are pinching pennies, or just want to be the sweetest host for your house guests, making lattes at home is wonderfully simplistic. Simplistic and delicious! I am ready to try this technique with some of my homemade almond milk.
Cheers!

Easy Latte at Home

Save some money in the New Year by making your latte at home!  No special equipment is needed.  Just a microwave and a mason jar!

  • 1 cup hot coffee
  • 1/2 cup 2% milk
  1. Pour your milk into a mason jar.  Close up the lid and shake it up vigorously.  It will get bubbly pretty quickly.  Shake until it about doubles in size, which is for about a minute.  You will get the best results using nonfat or low fat milk, and not whole milk like you may think.

  2. Remove the lid and place the jar in the microwave, heating it for 30 seconds.  The delicate foam will have stabilized into thick, spoonable foam!  Top your coffee and enjoy!
